A look at some of the nation’s leading dealmakers
Turbulence in the capital markets certainly put the squeeze on sales
and leasing activity in the past year. Month after month, companies across
the business spectrum laid off employees, putting expansion plans on
hold and often consolidating space. Meanwhile, many sales agents were
faced with the grim realities of a widening bid-ask spread, in which nei-
ther sellers nor brokers were willing to budge on pricing, and a practically
non-existent financing market for acquisitions.
Yet amid all of this gloom a number of industrious brokers persevered
and completed some impressive deals. A collection of those professionals
are featured in the following pages in the order in which they are ranked.
The editors of REAL ESTATE FORUM received hundreds of submissions.
Nominees received scores in three areas: total number of transactions,
square footage and dollar value of completed deals for the period between
February 2008 and February 2009. The final rankings are based on the
sum of all three metrics. The brokers’ firms provided all information, with
transaction information supplemented by Incisive Media archives and
other industry sources.
