The study is taking a sample of about
150 Energy Star-labeled office properties
managed by CBRE, more than half of which
are also LEED certified, “trying to determine if these buildings had better performance in the marketplace—better occupancy and rental rates,” says Pogue. “The
answer has been yes” in each of the three
years the study has been completed.
He adds that CBRE has also had con-
versations with the sample properties’ ten-
ants on how important sustainability is to
them. “By and large, they have told us over
time that yes, it does matter and they’ve
given us some insight into what character-
istics are important. Hopefully we can
match those up as we manage the build-
ings.” The owners of these properties simi-
larly have told CBRE that they’re happy
with the buildings’ performance.
