The power of influence is vast, and influencers yield such clout that they are able to effect change through direct and, more often than not, indirect action. The impact of an influencer is recognizable and significant. In all segments of the commercial real estate business, there are a number of individuals that have
made an indelible impact on their line of business. Be it through their contributions to the industry, or the vast successes they’ve racked up in completing deals and projects, or the innovations and best practices they’ve introduced
to their field, these people and organizations have helped to shape the industry and its potential future direction.
For the inaugural edition of our Influencers series, Real Estate Forum is putting the spotlight on some of the individuals and organizations who have made a name for themselves on the the retail real estate scene.
As we set about choosing who would be among our 2018 retail influencers we kept some basic criteria in mind: the
person must have noteworthy accomplishments, a stellar reputation and have made significant contributions to the
retail real estate industry. Our task was not easy; commercial real estate in general seems to attract high achievers.
Winnowing through the many applications, though, it was clear that while each nominee’s accomplishments were very
different, they shared the same fundamental attributes of hard work, an innovative mind, superior networking and
marketing skills and dedication to their clients and CRE community—not to mention their many charitable endeavors.
As you read through these pages you will become acquainted with so many different stories. Stories about cultivating strong relationships with retailers, founding niche companies that focus on one aspect of retail, revitalizing
neighborhoods and solving problems. The powerhouses within these pages have several accomplishments under
their belts. from helping to realize Starbuck’s drive-thru concept, to revolutionizig the way technology is put use in
the business, to hopscotching around the world to identify global retail trends that can be applied to local markets.
We were fascinated with what we learned about the retail real estate community as we went through these applications. We know that you will be, too.
