Women of Influence 25th Anniversary Special
Commercial real estate has changed a lot in recent years. And so have the professionals in it. Long dominated by men, women remain a minority but heir numbers are rapidly growing. And their influence as well.
The women here were selected from hundreds of stand-out nominations. A simple
word to sum them all up: outstanding. There is no magical or mystical formula for
their highly successful careers, often with accomplishments that stand out in part
because of their youth.
They all come from different backgrounds. And have varied experience. But they
share some common traits. They are recognized through their various accomplishments both in their profession and their personal lives. All of them balance the precarious nature of the long hours required by highly responsible working positions with
their own differing family situations. The endless and seemingly superhuman pace
of having a very successful career with the sometimes equally tough requirements of
personal lives are a characteristic found in all the professionals profiled here.
When you read their many accomplishments, you have to wonder how they do it.
And where in the world do they manage to fulfill all their varied work requirements
and still find time to serve on volunteer boards and mentor other women who like
themselves are also entering a long time male-dominated profession?
Yes, that’s another shared characteristic of our women to watch. They are always
willing to share their success with others. How they handle many multiple responsibilities is no simple job. With no easy answers, either. But what you find often is
that their corporate rise can be attributed first to their hard work. Intelligence helps
too. And so does determination. They have the will not only to succeed but to excel
while doing it. They are all rising stars.
So maybe you have not yet heard of REAL ESTATE FORUM’s Women to Watch today. But you
will tomorrow. You don’t have to give them anything because they have made it on their
own. Their success is entirely due to their ability. So if you have yet to know them, just give
them a little more time. You will be hearing from—and about—them.—David Wilkening
