With a BA in Design Architecture from the
University of Minnesota, Rachel Markos
planned to become an architect. When she
found her heart was at the job site rather
than the drafting table, her meticulous
attention to detail and creative thinking
were ideal qualities for making a switch to Project Management.
Her first job convinced her she was right. She was a project manager for a general contractor handling healthcare projects with
tight budgets, complicated scopes and timelines. She learned the
importance of teamwork. Markos is intentionally assigned demanding projects and responsibilities because of her thoughtful and
sensitive approach to complicated business issues. Currently, she is
juggling several projects simultaneously. She has embraced her
unique position to find ways to make change in the industry, spearheading efforts to train and educate women and minorities to
open doors for them in these industries.
JENNIFER P. MILES
SVP, Transition & Transformation
Cushman & Wakefield
Jennifer Miles has successfully worked for
two of the top three firms in CRE—CBRE
and Cushman & Wakefield. She has been
able to translate her strong process and
leadership skills to play a significant role in
an industry where her peers have 25-30
years of real estate experience. In addition
to her day job, which requires her to manage multiple multinational client relationships and support sales proposals, she manages to be active in the Charlotte community serving on multiple
boards. Miles manages transitions of global companies with transaction management, lease administration, facility management
and project management in the U.S. and more than 50 countries.
As part of each transition, she has to influence client CRE leadership while managing a team of platform and operational colleagues to transition personnel, technology and processes within a
90-day period. She also somehow finds time to develop the next
generation of real estate and business professionals as an adjunct
professor at Winthrop University.
