Limited industrial development landand supply constraints in major logisticsmarkets are the biggest challenges facing industrial real estate today.
Thankfully, industrial designer JayTodisco is focused on solutions. As president of Ware Malcomb, he is the namebehind the company’s multi-story industrial prototype, which makes better useof space in land-constrained markets bybuilding vertically. The model expandsthe rentable square footage without expanding the building’s footprint. Multi-story industrial had been considered too expensive, butTodisco has adjusted and evolved the design to make it work fordevelopers. The multi-story prototype not only solved an industry-wide problem, but positioned the design firm as an innovator in therapidly evolving industrial space. In 2013, an early version of themodel won NAIOP’s Distribution/Fulfillment Center of the Futureaward. For the competition, Todisco designed a five-story automatedfulfillment center.
In Todisco’s 48-year career, he has designed more than one-billion-square-feet of industrial space and he has been a leader at the firm.He began his career with Ware Malcomb in 1998 as regional director,and has moved to offices throughout the country to help lead andgrow different aspects of the firm, including expanding the NorthernCalifornia, Midwest, East Coast and Toronto offices. He was promotedto president this year to oversee nationwide growth for the firm.
Todisco serves on the board of directors at NAIOP’s LA/OrangeCounty Chapter and is the chairman of the NAIOP NationalForum. He is a general associate member of SIOR, a LEED
Accredited Professional, and has been a member of the AmericanInstitute of Architects since 1989. The firm is also an active supporter of The United Way, Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation,Susan G. Komen Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, BajaChallenge and Second Harvest Food Bank.
