taught him that the commercial marketplace is nothing if not dynamic and that
the pace of change just keeps accelerat-ing. “This is not the real estate market of
20 years ago, or 10 years ago, for that matter,” he says. “The amount of liquidity,
combined with the limitless reach of
information provided by today’s technological advances has created a global market that continues to expand.”
TRAVIS GARLAND, 32
Leasing Director
Portman
Management Co.
Atlanta
Garland completed a
deal this year that
brought the largest
corporate relocation
ever to Downtown Atlanta— 2,100
employees of the Coca-Cola Co. taking
276,000 square feet within SunTrust
Plaza. The deal was unique in that it
essentially moved 500,000 square feet of
office from start to finish, within 10
months. To accommodate Coca-Cola’s
space needs, Garland and Portman col-
laborated with Sun Trust, Coca-Cola and a
third-party tenant. SunTrust moved
employees out of 245,000 square feet and
the third-party tenant moved out of
31,000 square feet, thus preparing Coca-Cola’s new IT Center for Excellence
within the tight timeline. With skills like
that, no wonder Garland oversees marketing and leasing of Portman Holdings’
new office developments in the US from
early stages through development, while
also handling leasing for the two-million-square-foot Sun Trust Plaza in Atlanta. He
is on the board of the World Trade Center
of Atlanta Board.
